Governors of North and South Dakota are interested in Europe

June 30, 2008

Austrian Consul General and Trade Commissioner visit the Dakotas

North Dakota Governor John Hoeven and South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds showed great interest in exploring ways to cooperate with Austria and Europe. Visiting Consul General Robert Zischg and Trade Commissioner Franz Roessler, both based in Chicago, briefed the Governors and senior officials on the latest developments in a changing Europe. In addition, they learned about the interests of both states relating to cultural, educational and commercial exchanges across the Atlantic.

So far only one Austrian company, namely Rosenbauer America LLC’s subsidiary General Safety in Lyons (SD), shows up in the Austrian statistics. The company’s president, Mr. Harald Boer gave Consul General Zischg and Trade Commissioner Franz Roessler a tour of the production facilities for the fire trucks which it manufacturers. Cinnamon King, from the US Commercial Service, Sioux Falls (SD) also joined this meeting and gave the Austrian visitors an update on the economic situation of South Dakota.

Ms. Linda Rabe, President & CEO of the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce, was especially interested in Austrian tourism expertise.
