Increasing Demand from Medical Industry for Smaller Precision Molds

Injection molder Kleiss Gears, Inc. will be the first US-based polymer gear manufacturer to use micro-molding technology from Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH. The new technology is the answer to the increasing demand especially from the medical sector for micro-molded precision plastic gears. Production is scheduled to start in April and will supply a major medical OEM. One of the outstanding new features of the micro-molding machine is that it can produce gears weighing less than 100 milligrams keeping material waste and energy consumption to a minimum compared to traditional injection molding machines.

Wittmann, a global manufacturer of robots and automation equipment for the plastics industry, took over the Austrian injection molding machine maker Battenfeld in April 2008, making it the first company in the world to offer a fully-integrated product range for injection molding. Headquartered in Vienna, Austria , Wittmann Battenfeld has operations in more than 25 countries with a US subsidiary in Torrington, CT. Please visit www.wittmann-ct.com for more information.
