voestalpine launches automotive offensive in the USA

9. October 2012

The Austrian steel processing and technology group is forging ahead with its internationalisation and building a production site in the USA worth EUR 50 million.

As part of its globalisation offensive, the voestalpine Group is stepping up its automotive activities. The company is following automobile manufacturers, particularly those from Europe, into new markets and expanding its presence in the markets of the future. In the USA, a production facility is now being built in Cartersville, Georgia, with a construction budget of EUR 50 million. The site is in the centre of a southern cluster of automobile factories in close proximity to clients. It's production is set to begin in mid 2013 and will create 220 new jobs.

voestalpine is also forging ahead with its internationalisation to other continents: production sites are being expanded or newly built near well-known premium manufacturers in countries such as China, South Africa and Romania. In addition to this, multiple large-scale orders have recently come in from renowned manufacturers.

The need to expand is hardly surprising, given the fact that the Metal Forming Division of voestalpine works with every premium European manufacturer in the automotive sector. In the 2011/12 business year the company generated around 44% of its EUR 12.2 billion revenue in the mobility sector, with the automotive industry accounting for around two thirds of revenues.

voestalpine is a successful steel processing and technology group with 46,500 employees in 400 production and sales companies in more than 60 countries. The group is one of the leading partners of the automobile and white goods industries in Europe and of the oil and gas industries worldwide. Furthermore, voestalpine is the world market leader in turnout technology, tool steel and special sections.
