Dual education model successfully implemented in Shanghai

5. November 2013

The first class for metalworking apprentices following the Austrian education approach has started in China's largest city.

Austrian education expertise enjoys worldwide demand. The preparatory phase for the pilot project initiated by ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA and WIFI International took more than a year. In mid September the first “Austrian” apprentice class started with 22 Chinese pupils at Shanghai Information Technology College (SITC).

Over the next four years the apprentices will train to become skilled metalworkers following the model of the Austrian dual education system (parallel training on the job and in a vocational school).

The theoretical part of the curriculum will be taught at SITC, one of Shanghai’s most renowned vocational colleges, while the apprentices will get practical training at the subsidiaries of two Austrian companies in Shanghai: ALPLA , a global leader in packaging solutions, and ENGEL , the world’s largest producer of injection moulding machines.

The major goal at the end of the course is for students to pass the final exam set by the Austrian examination board.
