2014 Export Awards Series: Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH

22. July 2014

Since 1994 the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy have been presenting Export Awards to Austrian companies for their exceptional success on international markets. This year the prize in the "Industry" category went to Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH.

Doppelmayr acquired its first overseas export orders in 1953. Today there are more than 14,500 Doppelmayr ropeway systems in 88 countries worldwide; the Group has sales and service centres in 35 countries. Around 80% of revenue is generated from winter sports facilities. The company recently made headlines with the major order for 40 ropeways in Krasnaya Polyana near Sochi, the home of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The Austrians are also selling more and more ropeway systems which are unrelated to winter sports. There is increased demand from China, East Africa and South America for transport and local traffic solutions using ropeway technology. Doppelmayr is currently building the world’s largest urban ropeway system in Bolivia: 3 ropeways covering 11 kilometres will link up the major cities of La Paz und El Alto from summer 2014. Local transport using ropeway engineering from Doppelmayr is also in use in Istanbul, London, Caracas and Singapore.

Another option is the Cable Liner, becoming ever more popular among airports such as Toronto, Doha and Oakland. Exports account for around 85% of Group sales.
