Austrian exhibitors launch innovative premium products at Gulfood 2012

At Gulfood 2012, 17 selected Austrian companies from the food & beverage industry will present their superb products and offer their renowned quality services to both professionals and decision makers from all over Middle East. In a conversation with the Austrian Trade Commission, some of the Austrian exhibitors share their expectations about Gulfood 2012.

Austria is recognized worldwide for its top quality food and beverage and for its highest quality control standards. Some of Austria’s successful exports include environmentally friendly raw produce, dairy products and gourmet confectionary specialties. For Austrian companies from the food and beverage sector, Gulfood 2012 provides the optimal platform to enter this highly rewarding market, and Dubai presents a perfect hub to export one’s exports due to its wide reach not only to the GCC countries, but also beyond to former USSR Republics, the Indian subcontinent and Eastern Africa etc.
17 selected Austrian companies from the food and beverage sector are all geared for Gulfood 2012, one of the world’s biggest annual trade exhibition for the food and beverage industry. These companies will showcase their superb products and offer their renowned quality services to both professionals and decision makers from all over Middle East at the forum. Established Austrian companies like Salzburg Scholokade, Pez Production, Rox company among others, are brimming with expectations as they return to this year’s Gulfood. Michael Gelbert, export manager of Austria-based Salzburg Scholokade, says, “We are looking forward to this year’s Gulfood. Last year, the overall result was very positive. We even finalized the last details on our wafer products together with our importer in the UAE. Now we are starting in the UAE market and our importer is getting the first listing.”
On querying him about his strategy and plan for Gulfood 2012, he says, “We will be playing up our strengths and focusing on our existing successful products which include wafers 150g and 32.5 g available in the flavors of Hazelnut, Vanilla and Cocoa. Our main marketing tool is to organize wide spread tastings- a bit of our wafers is sufficient to measure its overall superior quality and taste.”
Salzburg Schokolade is a firm specialising in Austrian confectionary specialties, and at Gulfood 2012 they will present their new 100 gms double filled chocolate bars. It is available in Arabic text tailoring it to the Middle East market.
Innsbruck-based Rox Company is also upbeat about this year’s Gulfood. Says Michael Pammer, CEO, Rox company, ”Our appearance at last year’s Gulfood proved to be very promising and successful- since then we have already signed a contract with a local distribution company and recently shipped our ROX cans with a new Arabic design to Dubai. This time we intend to focus on regional distributors and further expansion in the UAE.”
Pez Production Europe (PPE), producer of nutritional supplements, returns to Gulfood 2012 with a new range of Vitamin C enriched effervescent tablets, including the sugar free varieties. Says Barbara Czupy of PPE, “Our products are much sought; however last year was a mixed one, we hope this year will be different since we have a new partner in the Middle East; and hopefully we will get more partners from this region (UAE, Oman, Bahrain etc)."
Meanwhile, established Austrian companies from the food and beverage industry such as Cult Cafe, iSi, Julius Meinl, Efko Frischfurt und Delikatessen, to name a few, are making their debut at Gulfood 2012. iSi, makers of cream whippers and cream chargers, soda chargers & soda siphons, is set to make a splash at this year’s Gulfood. Says Andrea Muell, head of marketing & business development, iSi, “We are very confident of our products. Using iSi Cream Whippers and iSi Cream Chargers, delicious and light whipped cream can be prepared quickly. Due to the closed and sealed system, HACCP requirements are met easily and the chilled cream stays fresh in the iSi Whipper for up to 10 days. iSi products are being used daily especially in top gastronomy. International Chefs unanimously acknowledge the iSi Whippers for its convenience when it comes to whipped cream and Espumas.” Adds Muell, “This year, we launched our new product, the iSi Gourmet Whip Plus , in the UAE. We hope to meet new partners and get in touch with possible new distributors at Gulfood 2012.”
Among all global food and beverage forums, Gulfood is definitely sought after due to the growing food consumption and shifting growth and outlook of the food sector in the Middle East and the good quality of visitors (professionals). Michael Gelbert of Salzburg Schokolade agrees wholeheartedly, “Last year besides Gulfood, we also participated in ISM, Cologne, IFE, London; PLMA, Amsterdam; ANUGA, Cologne. I have also visited Fancy food Show, USA, Washington; fine Food Australia. Gulfood particularly stands out for the following reasons: excellent organization, visitors who are mostly professionals and the receptive, potential markets of Middle East.”

Dr. Wolfgang Penzias, Austrian Commissioner for the GCC, states, “Gulfood is essential for Austrian companies to develop their business in the region as it gives companies from the F& B sector access to a wide selection of interested buyers from around the world. As global trends present new opportunities for the food, beverage and hospitality sectors in the Middle East, it is becoming imperative for industry professionals to remain updated. Moreover, in terms of quality and taste, Austria's food and beverage industry has managed to position itself not only in the domestic market, but also in more than 160 export markets.”
