Waagner Biro bags $2.8m Dubai bridge building deal

24. April 2013

Steel engineering firm Waagner Biro has won a $2.8m (AED: 10.6m) design and build contract for footbridges over Umm Suqeim Road in Dubai.

As part of the RTA's road improvements programme along Umm Suqeim Road between Al Quoz 3 and Al Barsha, Waagner Biro will construct the bridge foundations, staircases, bridge superstructure and lifts.

The bridges will have lengths of between 55m and 65m, said CEO Peter Brechtelsbauer, and the work is due to be completed in December 2013.

Main contractor of the overall improvements on the so-called Parallel Road Project R881-1B is Dutco Balfour Beatty. Lead consultant is Parsons.

Construction Week recently reported that Waagner Biro had bagged a $1.08m contract to support the construction of a new fish market earmarked along Dubai's Deira Corniche on behalf of Dubai Municipality.
