Innovations with a history of health

In 1951, medical history was written at Biochemie GmbH and a breakthrough made in pharmaceutical research in the Austrian federal state of Tyrol.

In the tranquil village of Kundl, the researchers of former Biochemie GmbH discovered and produced the first acid-resistant penicillin. This was a world sensation; it was now possible to administer penicillin in tablet form.

Today, what was formally Biochemie GmbH is now globally renowned as  Sandoz . The Austrian company develops and produces generic, patent-free medicines as well as a wide range of pharmaceutical and biotechnological substances. The company is one of the world's largest manufacturers of antibiotics and a pioneer in the field of modern biosimilars. Kundl is the largest development and production site in the entire group, dispatching around 140 million pharmaceutical packages every year.
