With its height of 250 meters and 60 floors the DC Tower 1 is now the tallest building in Austria and has become another landmark and important statement for the city of Vienna.

DC stands for Donau City. The development of the Vienna DC started decades ago and it was destined to be a modern and multifunctional city center. On what was originally a municipal rubbish tip, the UNO-City was erected from 1973-79. In 1992, an urban design master plan for the area was created. The outcome is an entirely new district with a diverse range of functions. The Vienna Danube Region Development Corporation (WED) owns the area and is responsible for its overall development. “The DC Tower 1 is not about the tallest height but the highest level of efficiency, functionality and architecture”, says WED’s CEO Thomas Jakoubek.

The shiny black tower with its impressing glass facade certainly stands out on many accounts. It is a multifunctional building that presents a variety of features including offices of international companies, a hotel, restaurant, bar and a gym. The restaurant on the 57th floor offers a 360-degree panoramic view sweeping from the Vienna Woods to Bratislava.

Much attention has also been put on sustainability. The tower meets the “Green Building” guidelines of the EU Commission and boasts low maintenance costs and reduced energy use. The tower is more than just a building – it is an investment in the future of the city.

Make sure you take a glance at this fascinating building during your next visit to Vienna.
