Teufelberger continues expansion drive

10 February 2015

The Austrian rope and wire manufacturer has acquired Thai company TexTech Cord and is building an additional production site in Stralsund, Germany.

The global player is consolidating its growth strategy in the steel wire and fibre rope sector, with the establishment of a further manufacturing site in Stralsund, Germany and the acquisition in Asia.

TEUFELBERGER ’s new production site in Stralsund, Germany is situated right on the Baltic Sea. From the end of 2016 the 14,000 m² plant is set to produce hundreds of tonnes of steel wire ropes. The investment will be around EUR 38 million, making it the largest expansion project in the company’s history.

Until now TEUFELBERGER has lacked direct market access to the growth market of Asia – a gap which will now be filled with the purchase of a Thailand-based fibre rope manufacturer. TexTech produces high-quality marine ropes of polypropylene, nylon, and polyester. The modern production facilities of TexTech were not the only appealing feature – the firm also has a comprehensive distribution network in Asia and Australia. The expansion of the product range facilitated by the acquisition of TexTech will also enhance TEUFELBERGER’s position as a specialist in sailing and yachting cordage on the well-established markets of the USA, Europe and New Zealand.

TEUFELBERGER’s product range includes steel wire ropes for ropeways and cranes, synthetic fibre rope, e.g. for sailing and industrial use, as well as the extrusion of plastic strapping products. Alongside the headquarters in Wels, the company has additional production sites in Austria, the Czech Republic and the USA, as well as a dense network of global distribution partners. The company has a 950-strong workforce with turnover of EUR 182 million; exports account for 90%.
