Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst to perform with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Mardi Gras spectacular

International sensation Conchita Wurst will perform with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra on Thursday 3 March 2016 at the Sydney Opera House in a one-night only special Mardi Gras Festival event, Conchita: From Vienna with Love.

In what will be her Sydney debut, Conchita will be joined on stage by Mardi Gras Ambassador and performer Courtney Act, actor and cabaret performer Paul Capsis and award winning cabaret and theatre performer Trevor Ashley in an all-star line-up. There will also be a surprise guest on the night. 

With the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Guy Noble, Conchita and the cast will perform songs from her debut self-titled album, as well as music from artists who have inspired her work such as Shirley Bassey and Cher. 

Conchita says her upcoming performance with the SSO at the Sydney Opera House "will definitely be a highlight of my career". 

"From Vienna with Love will build a bridge across the globe from Vienna to Sydney, full of music, love and fun," Conchita says. "I am really looking forward to performing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and fabulous guest artists who all have ties to Vienna and telling a story with music that inspired me and songs from my debut album." 

Conchita was propelled to international fame at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen when she won the competition with her performance of Rise Like A Phoenix, with the public embracing her as "The Queen of Austria". 

In 2015 Conchita returned to Eurovision – this time to host the event in Vienna. She also released her debut album, which went platinum that week, and her official autobiography Being Conchita: We are Unstoppable. Principal Partner

Director of the Austrian National Tourist Office in Sydney, Astrid Mulholland-Licht said: "Austria is renowned worldwide for its musical heritage and classical composers, yet there is also a young and diverse contemporary music scene in our country. Conchita’s collaboration with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra gives us the opportunity to not only showcase the modern face of Austria’s melodic landscape but also celebrate the versatility of our most famous present-day musical ambassador."
