EVN Bulgaria opened a newly constructed substation near the village Tsaratsovo, Plovdiv District, worth 5.4 million BGN

17. November 2011

Modern facility reaches capacity of 32.5 MVA and will significantly improve power supply in the region.

Today, November 17, 2011, in the presence of official guests was opened newly constructed stationary 110/20 kV electric substation "Tsaratsovo" of EVN Bulgaria Elektrorazpredelenie. The construction of the facility took one year as the groundbreaking was back in October 2010.

Symbolic commissioning of the substation was done by Mr. Jörg Sollfelner, Chairman of the Management Board of EVN Bulgaria, Mr. Wolfgang Hummer, Chairman of EVN Bulgaria Elektrorazpredelenie, Mr. Stefan Szyszkowitz, CFO EVN AG, Mr. Georgi Ignatov, Vice Governor of Plovdiv region, Mr. Ivan Totev, Mayor of Plovdiv municipality and Mr. Dimitar Ivanov, Mayor of Maritsa municipality.

"EVN is in the country since 2005 and during this period as a stable investor we have put more than 800 million BGN in Southeast Bulgaria. We hope that together with our customers and public institutions we will continue the implementation of new projects" said Mr. Jörg Sollfelner.

In turn, Mr. Wolfgang Hummer said: "The customer is always in the center of our business and EVN Bulgaria invests in order to improve the power supply. When building the new facility we did keep the planned period of one year. Also all Bulgarian and European standards have been met".

Vice Governor Mr. Georgi Ignatov said: "On behalf of the Regional Government I would like to express our content that this new substation opens. It is good that in times of recession a new facility is being opened and that only one year after the groundbreaking today we launch the installation. The investment will contribute to business development and will support energy capacities in the region of Plovdiv".

Ivan Totev, Mayor of Plovdiv, said: "I am familiar with the work of EVN Bulgaria since the implementation of important projects like the renovation of technical infrastructure in Stolipinovo and the new cogeneration plant for electricity and heating. We work in perfect synchronicity, and the provision of energy is the backbone of an economy".

The new facility is located in the village of Tsaratsovo, Plovdiv District. The construction of the substation is related to the intensive development of the area to the north of Plovdiv, which grew into an industrial zone with many newly built factories. This resulted in increasing the demand and need for larger energy capacities. The new substation "Tsaratsovo" will provide significant energy resources throughout the region. EVN Bulgaria investment of 5.4 million BGN in the new substation is an important incentive for the economy and business development in the area. The project for the new modern facility was developed in partnership with Siemens Bulgaria.

The facility has the most modern technologies deployed. In ''Tsaratsovo” substation has been installed digital equipment for management, control, monitoring and automation of distribution systems. Through this system the management of the new substation will be carried out remotely from the control center of EVN Bulgaria. The total capacity of the facility reaches 32,5 MVA.
With this investment, EVN Bulgaria will significantly improve the quality of power supply as of business, as of household customers in the region. The new facility is connected to the high voltage grid of NEK EAD.

“Tsaratsovo” substation is the second major project that EVN Bulgaria finished in the last three months. In early September 2011 on the site of TPP Plovdiv North was symbolically commissioned the most modern cogeneration plant for electricity and heating in the Balkans, where the company has invested 100 million BGN.
