M-Tel CEO Andreas Maierhofer Awarded as Bulgaria's "2011 Personalities in the News"

The CEO on the telecom market leader in Bulgaria Andreas Maierhofer was selected as the “2011 Personality in the News” in “Expat” category in the annual end-of-the-year polls of the largest Bulgarian English-language media and its Bulgarian-language service

More than 9 500 readers from around the world voted in December 2011 and January 2012, picking as Bulgaria's top personalities Bulgaria's new President Rosen Plevneliev, ex EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva, M-Tel CEO Andreas Maierhofer and Deloitte Bulgaria Chairman Vasko Raychev.

They were handed their prizes at the Sofia Sheraton Hotel Balkan on Tuesday in the presence of diplomats, business representatives and journalists, gathered by the largest Bulgarian English-language media and its Bulgarian-language service.

For the first time, in its 11th edition, the "Personality in the News" poll featured the "Business" and "Expats" categories.

The readers had to pick from five prominent nominees in each category – Politics and Business in – and Politics, Business, and Expats in (Sofia News Agency). In what was an extremely tough and close race Andreas Maierhofer managed to win over Czech Petr Dokladal, the Chairman and Regional Manager of power utility CEZ Bulgaria.

Previous winners of Bulgaria's "Personality in the News" titles include UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, former Foreign Minister Solomon Passy, Bulgarian virtuoso Teodosiy Spasov, CNN anchor Ralitsa Vassileva. The 2010 title was grabbed by Bulgarian EU Commissioner Kristalina Georgiva.
