Medical know-how made in Austria

Focus Lymphology in China: First IHM „Complete Decongestive Therapy“ (CDT) course successfully completed. Next course will start on 5 December in Shanghai.

After a successful educational project in Guangzhou, the internationalization of the Institute for technology-based education in Health, Management and Social Services International, an Austrian leader in education, continues its project in Eastern China.

A short look back at what has already been accomplished: In the time from August 21st to 29th 2017, the first IHM International CDT course in the field of lymphology took place at the Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou (China). This educational project, which is aimed at the improvement of the quality of treatment for lymphedema patients through highly educated lymph therapists, was enabled by the co-operation of several European and Chinese partners.

The educational course was developed in a close collaboration with the FH Joanneum in Graz and reflects the most recent scientific standard in Europe, which we were able to successfully transfer to this project to China.

The organization was done by IHM International, while the academic lead was taken over by both the FH Joanneum in Graz (Austria) and the Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. Additionally, we were glad to have our sponsoring industry partner Lohmann & Rauscher on our side. Furthermore the project was supported by ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Guangzhou, the international arm of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber in South China.

Prof. Dongfeng Huang, head of the rehabilitation department, invited to the official opening ceremony in the premises of the Sun Yat-sen University Zhongshan School of Medicine. We would like to thank the representatives of all our valued partners, like Prof. Kuang, dean of the Sun Yat-sen University, Fabian Gems, Head of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Guangzhou, Dr. Georg Votava, Management board member of IHM International, and Helen Wang, representative of the industry partner Lohmann & Rauscher, who is focusing strongly on the Chinese market with currently more than 1.000 employees.

During the ceremony, Mr. Prof. Chuhuai Wang of the Sun Yat-sen University emphasized the importance of a high quality therapy for lymphedema patients and he was very pleased to welcome 25 highly motivated therapists from all over China to this course. Mag. Fabian Gems from the ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Guangzhou highlighted how enriching international co-operations for all parties involved are, especially regarding the framework of the Austrian-Chinese co-operation treaty. For the company Lohmann & Rauscher, worldwide leader in the field of compression bandaging in lymphology and phlebology, the uniqueness of this kind of education plays a significant role and it was also emphasized that education must go hand in hand with high quality products in order to benefit the patient most.

Within the framework of this successful co-operation more courses and projects are planned for 2017 and 2018. Courses in other areas will also cover wound management and immobilization.

During the course our IHM lecturers were impressed by very active and involved students both for the theoretical and the practical content. The lead role of the course was taken over by the head of the International Lymph-League, Prof. Dr. Walter Döller, who held the training together with Mr. Chahine El Hindy. Especially the intensive practical training part was very well received by all students.
