EuroSkills 2010: 20 medals for Austria

The Austrian participants of the second vocational European championships have won 20 medals in Lisbon. Federal President Fischer and Federal Economic Chamber President Leitl paid tribute to the successful Austrian EuroSkills team for its outstanding achievements.

Lisbon was the stage for the vocational European championships„EuroSkills 2010“ which takes place every two years. Around 500 young specialists from all over Europe met around the beginning of December 2010 and proved themselves before 800 judges - among them 30 participants from Austria. The Austrian team achieved great success winning 20 medals (12 gold, 7 silver and 1 bronze) and came in second place in the European rankings.

In recognition of these outstanding achievements, the Austrian EuroSkills team were honoured by Federal President Fischer and Federal Economic Chamber President Leitl. The good team result proves also that the national educational establishments and vocational schools are successful in developing qualified specialists in Austria.

In the last two vocational European championships - EuroSkills 2008 and 2010, Austria has won 35 medals, 20 of which were gold. The next EuroSkills takes place in 2012 at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium). In the meantime, the World Skills Competition 2011 is up next in London.
