EuroSkills 2014: Team Austria retains European Championship title

With an impressive 19 medals, the Austrian team once again topped the list of nations at Europe's vocational skills competition in Lille, France – followed by France, Finland and Germany.

Around 500 talented youngsters from 25 European countries showed off their skills at the EuroSkills 2014 in Lille from 2nd to 4th October. The Austrians put in a convincing performance yet again in 2014, with Team Austria taking 19 medals (9x Gold, 5x Silver, 5x Bronze) and 4 diplomas of excellence. This gave Austria first place in the country rankings, repeating the victory from 2012. Furthermore, Oliver ANIBAS from Austria was the competitor with the best overall result at EuroSkills 2014, earning him the “Best of Europe” award.

The exceptional achievement of the Austrian EuroSkills team – consisting of 36 young specialists from 28 vocations – shows that the skilled workers which Austria needs so urgently for the future are receiving excellent education and training in Austrian companies and vocational schools.

Since the European skills championship was founded in 2008, Austria has won a total of 76 medals, 43 of which were Gold. The next EuroSkills will be held in 2016 in Göteborg (Sweden). Before that, competitors can look forward to the World skills championship, WorldSkills 2015 in Sao Paulo (Brazil).
