Austria peaks in waste recycling

Austria in the fore together with Luxembourg, Germany and Slovenia 

ARA - Altstoff Recycling Austria - is Austria’s leading company within the collecting of re-useable packaging.
2010 turned out to be a record year for ARA. A total of 835.000 tons of packaging from paper, glass, plastics, metal and wood was collected. Compared to 2009 this is an increase of approx. 1,3%. The most important increase derives from plastic packaging - with 4,5%.

One of ARA’s factors of success is the highly developed collecting infrastructure. 2010 ARA tightened the collecting net furthermore by setting up 60.000 new collection bins. Nationwide 1,5 million collection bins are in use. Furthermore 1,4 million households are affiliated to the yellow sack collection. A recent Euro barometer poll of the European Commission showed that 97% of the Austrian population separates their waste.

ARA achieved approx. 850 orders from new customers by business development. In 2010 a total of 15.231 customers licensed their packaging with ARA. 27% of these are foreign customers. For 2011 ARA estimates a revenue of 150 million Euros from licenses.
