City trains for clean cities

10. September 2011

The Austrian engineering consultants from HET Hochleistungs- Eisenbahn und Transporttechnik GmbH implemented a pioneering Citytrain with some remarkable benefits for city traffic and the environment.

In the future there probably will be another vehicle on the narrow roads of city centers around the world. The engineers from HET, located at Lake Wallersee close to Salzburg, produced a sustainable Citytrain, that´s guided via joystick and laser through the front cab. With 1,40 meter amplitude and a variable length the vehicle will be able to make its way easier to a certain spot than the vans we know. The train produces neither noise nor fumes and if it is filled up once with hydrogen it will ride for approximately eight hours in a row. Also the price of one tank fill speaks for itself: 0,50 €.

A first on-road test with the silver shuttle will take place in Salzburg´s famous Getreidegasse in the upcoming weeks. Local companies already showed their interest in the money-saving train, as well as the organization committee for the Football World Championship 2014 in Brazil. The Citytrain is flexible and will be able to either deliver goods from one spot to another or transport passengers from one spot to another. HET-Boss Karl Gruber confirmed in an interview with the austrian business-newspaper ‘Wirtschaftsblatt’ a number of inquiries from interested parties. The price companies will have to pay for one Citytrain is EUR 18.000, but with extremely low running costs the investment will pay off within a very short while.
