Construction of Sydhavnsmetro with Austrian participation

18. December 2017

The Danish Metroselskab, responsible for the construction and operation of the Copenhagen Metro with more than 60 million passengers per year, recently announced the tender winners for the construction of five additional metro stations and the rail installation of the upcoming 4.5 km subway line towards Copenhagen's South Harbor.

The contract for the work of the 1.2 billion euro project was awarded to two international consortia. The Austrian-Portuguese joint venture consisting of Rhomberg Bahntechnik GmbH and Efacec Engenharia e Sistemas, S.A. will provide rails and technology. The German-French consortium TUNN3L JV, consisting of Hochtief Infrastructure GmbH and Vinci Construction Grands Projets, is responsible for the construction of the five metro stations. According to the Metro company, the price and technical rating each made up for 50 percent of the evaluation of the companies' offers.

The Sydhavnsmetro will be an extension of the upcoming M4 subway line, which is currently under construction and will run from the North Harbor urban development area via the Copenhagen Cityring (scheduled to open in 2019) to the Copenhagen South Harbor area. The five new stations of the Sydhavnsmetro are to be used by 16 million travelers annually by the year 2035.
