And the winner is… 2019’s National Energy Globe Award Iceland goes to Reykjavik Energy

Reykjavik Energy and Climeworks have partnered to combine direct air capture (DAC) with the permanent geological storage of CO2 for the first time. As part of the CarbFix2 project, Climeworks demonstrates a safe, permanent and highly scalable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technology. This type of solution has been recognized as a crucial component in efforts to achieve global climate goals.

The collaborative research project centers around one of the world's largest geothermal power plants in Hellisheidi, Iceland, where CO2 has been injected and mineralized at an industrial scale for several years - see .

Austrian Commercial Counsellor Cosima Steiner visited Reykjavik Energy (Orkuveita Reykjavíkur ) in Spring 2019 to hand over the Certificate to Edda Sif Aradóttir, Bergur Sigfússon and Sandra Ósk Snæbjörnsdóttir - The team of Scientists at OR‘s R&D Department, who are behind the award-winning project.
