Star Wine List of the Year – National Winner Denmark 2020

Geranium is recognized for the best Austrian Wine List in Denmark and takes home awards in the categories Grand Prix for best overall wine list, as well as By the Glass Wine List.

Star Wine List of the Year is the wine list competition from award-winning wine bar and wine restaurant guide Star Wine List , which after great success in the Nordic countries has now expanded worldwide. It is currently available for 39 cities in 25 countries, including Vienna , where a local sommelier recommends what he or she believes are the restaurants with the best wine list. 

Star Wine List of the Year Denmark 2020

National competitions are currently held in a dozen countries around the world, awarding restaurants in various categories for the best wine list. The first location was Finland on August 31st, followed by Denmark on September 1st. Thanks to the cooperation with Austrian Wine , the winners of each country and each category will be invited to the Global Final and the Austrian wine festival VieVinum in May 2021, where the best wine lists in the world will be crowned.  

In Denmark, Copenhagen’s only three Michelin star restaurant Geranium not only won for Best Austrian Wine List, but also for By the Glass Wine List, before proving a league of its own by winning the Grand Prix category which honors the best overall wine list in Denmark. Other restaurants competing for the best Austrian Wine List where Admiralgade 26 , Alchemist , Lyst and Syttende .  

In an interview with Star Wine List , Geranium Wine Director & General Manager Søren Ledet and Head Chef Rasmus Kofoed, describe their connection to Austrian wine: 

"If you look at Austria as a wine region, there is so much diversity in styles of wine from region to region, even DAC to DAC, and they are constantly trying to improve the appellation system so that every style of wine is recognized."

It's a country full of amazing winemakers making unique styles of wine with indigenous grapes like Grüner Veltliner, St Laurent, Blaufränkish and so on. In Steierland, they are masters of making balanced orange wines, in Lower Austria they make some of the best spicy, vegetal and herbaceous whites from Grüner. Excellent reds in Burgenland and Ausbruck from Rust - what’s not to love! " 

Other winners of this evening were restaurant 108 , which was recognized for the best Low intervention / Natural wine list, and Admiralgade 26 , winning the Short List and Special Jury Prize categories. The latter restaurant is led by Christian Nedergaard and Sebastian Rind Nellemann, who also run two wine bars dedicated to Austrian wine, Ved Stranden 10 and Lille Blå Vinbar and supply several top restaurants in Copenhagen with their Österreich Vin - portfolio.
