Vienna becomes capital city for e-mobility

5. November 2013

New loading stations for e-cars to be set up until 2015

Until the end of 2015, 400 new loading stations for e-cars will be established in Vienna and Lower Austria, 300 in the Austrian capital. This has been announced by a consortium consisting of Wien Energie , NTT DATA and the technology corporation Schrack . The availability of loading stations is key to a faster dissemination of e-mobility. With this initiative the three companies aim to invigorate an ecologically and economically sustainable future.

According to the e-mobility initiative of the Austrian federal government, 4.5 percent of all vehicles shall possess electrical drive in 2020, equaling 200.000 e-vehicles. This ambitious goal can only be reached if enough fast loading stations are available.

“E-service stations are an important step in order to secure a more climate friendly and cleaner future. As leading energy service provider Wien Energie contributes essentially to the achievement of sustainable mobility. With NTT DATA and Schrack we have found the proper partners for the roll-out of our smart loading stations. These companies ensure the use of professional and state-of-the-art technology as well as the national and international interoperability of e-service stations.”

For years Wien Energie has been investing in the roll-out of an infrastructure for loading stations. In Vienna, e-car-owners can already “refuel” their vehicles at over 150 loading points.

The new loading points allow for registering/subscription via SMS, QR-code or by card. The automatic charging will work across national boundaries, as Wien Energie has developed a roaming solution for e-mobility services within the scope of the EU-promoted project VIBRATE .

The Schrack Technology Group, a leading technology corporation specialized in products and solutions in the field of light, energy and data distribution, will be supplying the e-loading systems called i-CHARGE , which already have proved their worth in other contexts.
