We brought a selection of Austrian companies to the UK for a three-day tour of the latest in additive manufacturing and 3D printing.

Starting in Manchester, our trip took us to some of the UK’s leading manufacturers and research institutions in and around Sheffield, Nottingham and Birmingham. You can see some of the highlights below, as well as a full list of the Austrian companies who participated. Or take a look at the pictures here .

Day 1

  • Visit to the AMRC Factory of the Future and Factory 2050 advanced manufacturing research facility
  • The latest in metal powders and alloys from LPW Technology
  • Tour of Sheffield and networking reception with representatives of British companies


Day 2

  • Visit to the TWI Technology Centre to learn about TWI’s expertise in the aerospace, automotive and medical technology sectors
  • Visit to AM design company Croft Additive Manufacturing
  • Presentation of the latest research into multi-material AM technology and its applications in industry at the University of Nottingham
  • Visit to Hieta Technologies, experts in the use of metal AM for heat exchangers


Day 3

  • Visit to AM machining company Renishaw, including a look at their testing lab and the industrial applications for hot cells
  • Visit to Materials Solutions, whose AM manufacturing technology is used to make blades for Rolls Royce’s Trent aero engines
  • Visit to the state-of-the-art manufacturing technology research facilities at the University of Birmingham
