Austrian sun-blind system for London skyscraper

2. October 2007

HELLA, one Austria’s major manufacturers of venetian blinds, awnings and roller shutters has landed a £1.4m project in the heart of London’s financial district.

The Broadgate Tower is a skyscraper currently under construction in the City of London, London’s main financial district. When completed, it is set to become the seventh tallest building in London and the third tallest in its financial hub.

Austrian-based firm HELLA has been commissioned to supply 25,000m2 of specialist blinds (an area roughly the size of 6 football pitches) for the new tower in a contract valued by managing director Martin Troyer at £1.4m.

The company began delivering the first custom-designed blinds back in November, although the facade itself was only recently completed.

HELLA has seen its turnover rise dramatically to £90m in recent years. The company now employs 1000 people, of which 200 are based at the firm’s headquarters in the village of Abfaltersbach , East Tirol.
