Swarovski sales up by a quarter

Austrian crystal jewellery specialist Swarovski has increased its sales by 25 per cent in the first half of 2008, attributed by the company to its aggressive expansion programme.   

Swarovski expects the rise in sales — which constituted a 17 per cent like-for-like improvement on the same period in 2007 — to continue into the second half of the year. “This is a position that it is likely to hold based on initial sales from the Autumn/Winter collection that arrived in stores last week and is already selling above expectations,” said the company in a statement.

The company’s ambitious expansion programme included store openings in Cambridge, High Wycombe, Chichester and Exeter in the first half of the year. A further 10 openings throughout key locations across the UK are scheduled for 2008.

Swarovski is also undergoing significant management restructuring; a new general manager of the UK and Ireland operation, Hayley Quinn, takes over this month from James Shepherd, who has moved to a new position as the Vice President for Operations for North Europe.
