Later the same week the celebrated Austrian winemaker, Willi Bründlmayer a “beacon of Austrian wine” ( Jancis Robinson ) presented his wines at an AUSTRIAN WINEMAKERS’ DINNER AT RANSOMES DOCK, the London wine trade’s favourite restaurant to great acclaim.

As a grand finale on 11 September, no less than three Austrian wine events took London by storm
on a single day in the capital!

-at the Vintners’ Hall at Mansion House The Institute of Masters of Wine presented AUSTRIA’S CREME DE LA CREME TASTING AND SEMINAR with a discussion led by Willi Klinger, Willi Bründlmayer, Kurt Feiler and Jan-Erik Paulson and wines from Austrian stellar vintners: Krutzler, Moric, Triebaumer, Sattlerhof, Tement, Schloss Gobelsburg, Bründlmayer, Knoll, Pichler, Hirtzberger, F.X. Pichler, Prager, Kracher, and Feiler-Artinger

-at The Princess Victoria in Shepherd’s Bush AN INFORMAL TASTING DINNER HOSTED BY WINES FROM AUSTRIA marked the inauguration of Pepi Schuller MW as the first Austrian Chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine 2008

-and at Café Strudel in Richmond A VIENNESE FOOD AND WINE TASTING celebrated the wines and food of Austria, with wines from Klosterneuburg Hirsch, Jamek, Netzl, and Spaetrot-Gebeshuber

AUSTRIA’S RAISED PROFILE ON THE LONDON WINE SCENE REFLECTS SPIRALLING UK EXPORTS OF AUSTRIAN WINE, with a fourfold increase in sales volume, (and an eightfold increase in value) since the year 2000. In 2000, Austria exported 51,000 litres of wine into the UK. In 2007 that figure had increased to 212,000 litres. Over the same period values rose from EUR 354,000 to EUR 2.48m
