Aer Lingus to fly Gatwick to Vienna

Aer Lingus will operate services to Vienna International Airport from April 2009 from its new base at London Gatwick. The base is the airline's first outside the island of Ireland.

Aer Lingus will initially locate four Airbus A320 short haul aircraft at Gatwick from April 2009 and will operate services to Malaga, Munich, Nice, Vienna, Dublin, Knock, Faro and Zurich with fares starting from £19.99 one way including taxes. Within 12 months the new base is expected to grow to eight aircraft with the potential for up to 2.5 million passengers a year. 

Commenting on the announcement, Aer Lingus Chief Executive Dermot Mannion said: "We are very excited at this opportunity to grow our business in Europe's biggest aviation market. We are offering consumers flights to top European business and leisure destinations."
