This year, the Institute of the Regions of Europe (IRE) invites for the sixth time to the Conference of the European Regions and Cities to Salzburg. The focus will be on public services and how they can be secured in the future.

The 6th Conference of European Regions and Cities will be held from 19-21 September 2010 in Salzburg (Austria), focussing on how regions and cities can secure public services in the future. The Institute of the Regions of Europe (IRE) has again managed to win over outstanding speakers for this event (see programme).

The conference is under the patronage of the European Commission represented by EU Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn, President of the Committee of the Regions (EU) Mercedes Bresso, Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Michael Spindelegger and Federal Minister for Economy, Family and Youth Reinhold Mitterlehner.

Focal points of the conference are:

  • the IRE Expert Forum „New Energy – Issues and Potentials for Regions“ and
  • the Panel-Discussion „How can Regions and Cities secure Public Services in the Future“.

In four working groups staffed with high-ranking participants, discussions on waste disposal, water, health care, telecommunication and infrastructure will be deepened.

The IRE Scientific Symposium on „The Importance of Regional Universities for Research and Teaching“ on 21 September will conclude the three-day event.

About 300 participants from all over Europe are expected to come - above all from Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.
More information on the conference including venues and hotel reservation can be found in the programme .
