Open to all – our Passivhaus Kaffeehaus at the Ecobuild Trade Fair in London

16. February 2012

Join us to experience a Viennese coffee house culture with a zero carbon twist.

With interest in Passivhaus, the low energy building design, increasing rapidly in the UK we are pleased to announce that our stand at the Ecobuild trade fair at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre this year will have a very special twist.

To accompany our showcase of Austrian sustainable building companies we will be constructing an actual Passivhaus building on our stand and converting it into a Viennese coffee house. Showcasing the technology that is already shaping much of Austria, and increasingly being specified in UK projects, the ‘Passivhaus Kaffeehaus’ opens its doors for three days from 20-22nd March at the Ecobuild show.

Constructed from certified timber, the coffee house will integrate technology from specialist sustainable building product suppliers. This is the place to come to explore the possibilities of Passivhaus over a cup of Austrian coffee.

The demonstration cafe will not be a closed in structure with the technology hidden but partially opened up to highlight how each technology integrates into the whole, offering an insight into the holistic total building solution. Experts from Austria and their UK supply chain partners will be on hand to explain more.

The decision to construct a ‘Viennese’ coffee house was made due to the fact that nowhere in the world will you find so many large scale Passivhaus housing developments as in Vienna. The Austrian capital boasts more than 15,000 Passivhaus homes with another 1,800 currently being built. One in four Passivhaus buildings worldwide can be found in Austria.

Indeed Passivhaus is becoming so widespread that Austria has stopped counting. In six Austrian towns the only method of building is now Passivhaus. One lower Austrian town is currently undergoing a complete retrofit in Passivhaus.

The successful implementation of Passivhaus in the UK can only be done with cooperation between technology developers and reliable and committed distribution and installation specialists. Those interested in working together with Austrian technology suppliers are encouraged to pre-arrange 1-2-1 meetings on the Austrian Pavilion by contacting Peter Franklin on
