Austrian expertise on show at Timber-Expo in Birmingham

11. September 2013

Some of Austria’s leading timber engineering specialists will be in Birmingham on 24-25th September for the Timber-Expo exhibition.

Timber-Expo is the leading event for the UK timber construction industry and is a meeting place for specifiers, clients, academics and the supply chain.

Last year over 4000 people visited the show in Coventry. This year the show, which has 150 exhibitors and 74 seminars, has moved to the NEC in Birmingham to accommodate its growth.

Austria has a long tradition of timber construction and is at the forefront of innovation in the sector. Renowned for its high quality Austrian timber has already been used on many prestigious projects as the UK rediscovers timber as a sustainable and aesthetically pleasing building material.

Among the exhibitors will be Austrian large span solution specialist Wiehag, who are supplying the glulam grid roof for the Foster + Partners designed GBP 500 million Crossrail station at Canary Wharf in London. Previous projects include the Olympic sized pool at the Sunderland Aquatic Centre and Henley Business School.

Also exhibiting are Binderholz who, together with UK construction firm B&K Structures, have formed the highly successful cooperation X-LAM Alliance. As a cross laminated timber solutions provider the X-LAM Alliance has supplied numerous education projects including recently the Furness Academy in Barrow. It is also pioneering the use of solid timber for large scale residential projects as an alternative to more traditional all-steel systems.
