Austrian startups take centre stage at #AustrianPitchingDay

14. December 2015

Our annual pitching event was a hit with UK investors

We were thrilled to welcome some 30 investors to our Austrian Pitching Day event on 26 November, when ten Austrian startups presented their high-tech products and services in the hope of securing investment.

The first five pitches showcased a device to help cool an ear inflammation, software to visualize big data, a steam-powered solar panel, a natural language processing application aimed at the insurance and fintech industries, and a new hand vein scanning system. After a short break, five more companies took to the floor with products ranging from optical character recognition software for mobile devices to an application to detect and assess rheumatic diseases, an online jamming community, video glasses for hospital patients, and a piece of deal-screening and pitch-scoring software for investors. You can find out more about them all in the Pitching Day programme (download it below).

Once the pitches were over, the companies networked with investors over a selection of our fine Austrian wine and food. Four lucky startups - Fresnex , SofasessionHappymed and Anyline - were crowned winners of our public vote, and as well as the fame and glory won a listing on the UK Business Angels Association website.

But the event didn't end with the pitching evening itself. The following day was packed with presentations at the Austrian Trade Commission and visits around the high-tech hubs of Silicon Roundabout and Shoreditch in east London. UK Trade & Investment , KPMG , Thomas Eggar , the UK Business Angels Association , Abundance Generation Crowdinvesting and Playbrush - a UK-Austrian company that's just completed a successful Kickstarter campaign - were all on the agenda, and the companies also visited a couple of co-working spaces and incubators like Idea London , an incubation programme from Cisco, Thompson Reuters and UCL.

After a final round or two of table tennis at Blueberry Bar the group converged at the Silicon Drinkabout to enjoy a beer courtesy of 3Beards and Google.

The event was put together with the help of our partners aws i2business angels , Junge Wirtschaft , Aussenwirtschaft Austria Startups Go Global  and the UK Business Angels Association .* [pdf, 457.3kb]
