Austrian trade figures for Indonesia increased significantly in 2016, with Austrian exports to Indonesia rising by 9.9% and imports from Indonesia increasing by 8.5%.

According to preliminary trade figures for 2016 from Statistics Austria the Austrian exports to Indonesia increased by 9.9 % to EUR 235.6 Mio. and the Austrian imports from Indonesia increased by 8.5% to EUR 250.5 Mio.. Therefore, the total bilateral trade volume amounted to EUR 486.1 Mio. in 2016. Indonesia is Austria´s fourth most important export market in ASEAN and for 2017, another increase of the bilateral trading volume is expected.

As in previous years, Austrian exports to Indonesia mainly comprised (more than 50 %) electric and mechanical machines (EUR 75.6 Mio. and 65.1 Mio.), followed by paper and cardboard products (EUR 22.3 Mio.) and by staple fibers (EUR 13.9 Mio., + 115 %!). Austria also exported medical devices (EUR 12.3 Mio.), pharmaceutical products (EUR 4.7 Mio.) and base metals (EUR 4.4 Mio.) to Indonesia. 

On the import side, clothing (EUR 92.0 Mio.) and shoes (EUR 45.0 Mio.) remain the most important import products (more than 50%) from Indonesia, followed by electrical components (EUR 30.7 Mio.), rubber products (EUR 11.8 Mio.) and tin (EUR 11.1 Mio.).
