600 different products, from mixed herbs to teas, spices to essential oils, all organically grown. Sonnentor produces all of this in a hidden corner of Austria, the Waldviertel.

There's no reason why you should be familiar with Sprögnitz, a small place in Waldviertel, Lower Austria. There is however a reason why you should look more closely at this hidden corner in the north of Austria: the company Sonnentor . Since1988 this has been the site where organic pioneer Johannes Gutmann produces spices, tea, coffee, mixed herbs, soups and various fragrance and care products - all of them 100% organic - and exports them across the globe.

The Sonnentor range offers 600 different products in total. Company founder Gutmann pays particular attention to sourcing all materials and ingredients from the region, as well as dealing fairly with partners and suppliers – a concept that extends far beyond the organic production. In addition to 150 Austrian organic farmers who supply Sonnentor with herbs etc., Sonnentor products have also been grown in the Czech Republic since 1992. There have also been organic farming projects in Romania since 2006 and in Albania since 2007.

For the current financial year (per end of March) the company, which employs 125 staff, predicts revenue of EUR 20 million (+15%). Exports account for 75%. The main export markets are Germany, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. However, the company exports to over 40 countries, including overseas to Canada, Japan, Bali, Australia and New Zealand.
