AUSTRIAN TRADE WITH INDONESIA REMAINS STRONG

May 15, 2019

Austria’s foreign trade saw dynamic growth in 2018, with imports and exports both rising by more than 5%. Austria’s trade with Indonesia remained solid, with Austrian exports from Austria to Indonesia amounted to some EUR 231 Mio. while at the same time Indonesian exports to Austria reached EUR 291 Mio.

According to preliminary trade figures for 2018 from the Austrian National Statistics Agency (Statistics Austria ) the Austria’s exports to Indonesia decreased by 6.6 % to EUR 231.5 Mio. while at the same time imports from Indonesia increased by 5.0 % to a record value of EUR 290.6 Mio. The reason for the slight decline in exports can be explained by the fact that many Austrian exports are connected to large projects of which many were successfully concluded in 2017. But as this year more projects are being prepared this decline is expected to be only temporary.

As in previous years, Austrian exports to Indonesia mainly comprised (more than 60 %) electric and mechanical machines (EUR 82 Mio. and 51 Mio.), followed by paper and cardboard products (EUR 20 Mio.) and by staple fibers (EUR 12 Mio.).

On the import side, clothing (EUR 87 Mio.) and shoes (EUR 55 Mio.) remain the most important import products (almost 50% of all imports) from Indonesia, followed by electrical components (EUR 35 Mio.), tin (EUR 35 Mio.) and rubber products (EUR 12 Mio.).
