First round of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and Indonesia

Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiated between the European Union and Indonesia.

On July 18, 2016 the negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the European Union and Indonesia were officially launched and the first round took place in Brussels from September 20-21, 2016. The EU negotiation team was led by Mrs. Helena König, the EU Commission’s Director for Asia and Latin America, while the Indonesian team was led by Mr. Iman Pambagyo, Director General for International Trade Negotiations at the Indonesian Ministry of Trade.

The first round discussed the following topics:

  • trade  in goods
  • rules of origin
  • sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures
  • technical barriers to trade (TBT)
  • customs and trade facilitation
  • government procurement services and investment
  • intellectual property rights (including geographical indications)
  • competition, trade and sustainable development
  • trade remedies
  • dispute settlement
  • economic cooperation
