High investments in Research and Development

January 7, 2015

Semiconductor company invests EUR 290 million in research and development and creates 200 new jobs

Around half of all passports and identity cards worldwide are equipped with an Austrian security chip, as well as every third smartphone. Furthermore on average every new car has 25 Austrian made chips integrated, which for example serve as an active parking assistant.

The Austrian factory of Infineon, one of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers, recently invested € 290 million, around a fourth of its profits, to build an Innovation Center for power electronics in Villach, Austria.

This investment reflects the enormous importance research and development have for Austrian companies and ensures their strong market position.
