Vienna has the highest quality of life for eighth consecutive year

March 17, 2017

The Austrian capital Vienna has been rated the world’s most livable city for the 8th time in a row by this year’s Mercer‘s “Quality of Life“ study of 231 cities. Vienna leads the ranking ahead of Zurich and Auckland, followed by Munich and Vancouver.

Altogether there are 7 European cities in the top 10, which shows the quality of living has not suffered during recent developments in Europe.  According to Mercer‘s “Quality of Life“ study , the highest ranking cities in Asia and Latin America are once again Singapore (25) and Montevideo (79).

The study examined local living conditions such as education, public transportation, safety, health care or cultural offerings and is used by multinational companies to decide where to send and locate their expatriate employees.

Vienna's 1.8 million inhabitants benefit from the city's cafe culture and museums, theatres and operas. Rents and public transport costs in the city, whose architecture is marked by its past as the center of the Habsburg empire, are cheap compared with other western capitals.
