There was a strong turnout from the European business community for the European Chamber of Ireland’s business lunch at the Gresham Hotel on 22nd May 2012, held to promote discussion on the referendum due to take place on 31 May 2012, on the European Stability Treaty.

The main speaker was Minister for European Affairs Lucinda Creighton T.D. The Minister's speech promoting a yes vote was warmly received by the audience. This was followed by a  lively Q &A session. Jack Golden, President of the Chamber, reminded the audience of the scale of Irish- European  economic links and that  "60% of everything produced on this island is sold to trading partners within the EU", adding that "a vibrant, efficient and stable European market is vital for all of us whose livelihoods depend, one way or another on this trade,”

In attendence were 14 Ambassadors from Europe, representatives of the 19 bilateral chambers of commerce operating in Ireland, business leaders from Ireland and business leaders from European businesses operating in Ireland.
The European Chamber of Ireland was established in 2009 with the goal of giving a stronger voice to European trade and business topics.
