Austria is the second richest country in the EU

Austria is once again the second richest country in the European Union after Luxembourg. Outside the EU only the Norwegians and the Swiss are doing better than Austria.

With a GDP level of 129%, Austria had again the highest GDP per capita of all EU member states except Luxembourg (264%). This made Austria the second richest EU country in 2013, closely followed by Sweden and the Netherlands (both at 127%) as well as Ireland (126%). The other countries above the EU average were Denmark (125%), Germany (124%), Belgium (119%), Finland (112%), France (108%) and the United Kingdom (106%).
According to the latest data from the EU statistics experts, Eurostat , gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in Purchasing Power Standard (PPS) ranged from 47% to 264% of the EU average (100%).

In Italy (98%) and Spain (95%), GDP per capita was slightly below the EU average. The two countries with the lowest GDP per capita were once again Romania (54%) and Bulgaria (47%).

Two non-EU European countries - Norway (191%) and Switzerland (158%) had higher GDP levels than Austria.
