Doppelmayr brings greater mobility to San Francisco Bay Area

18 December 2014

Austrian cable line specialist Doppelmayr closes the gap in local public passenger transportation in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Oakland Airport Connector marks the completion of another showcase project for Doppelmayr Cable Car GmbH & Co KG (DCC) from western Austria. The Automated People Mover (APM) with a system length of 5.1 km opened in November 2014 and links up Oakland International Airport with the BART Coliseum Station – a key transport hub in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The client Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) – the biggest public transport operator in the Greater San Francisco area with over 8 million people – has chosen the system for its environmental and economic credentials. Doppelmayr also gained the contract to operate the system for the next 20 years.

The Oakland Airport Connector comprises multiple air-conditioned walk-through trains with a cutting-edge infotainment system. The APM has a system length of 5.1 km and a capacity of around 1,500 passengers per hour and direction designed for a maximum speed of 50 km/h.

The Doppelmayr Group has production sites and service and distribution centres in over 35 countries. The company has realised over 14,500 ropeway systems for clients in 88 countries.
