Dear friends,
we take pleasure in informing you that the 13th Session of the India-Austria Joint Economic Commission will be held in New Delhi on 11 September 2013 headed by Ms. Bernadette Gierlinger, Deputy Minister, Austrian Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth. On this occasion the Austrian Trade Commission, New Delhi is organizing the visit of a high-profile Austrian Trade Mission to Bhutan, New Delhi and Gujarat from 7th to 14th September, 2013 (programme enclosed for your reference).

It will be the first visit of an Austrian business delegation to Bhutan and several official meetings are envisaged including those with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Gross National Happiness Commission (Planning Commission), Investment Board etc. Bhutan’s economy has expanded at a rapid pace and the projected growth rates for 2013 and 2014 are around 8.5% and 8.8.% respectively. Although this impressive growth is primarily due to large projects in the hydropower sector, the Government of Bhutan is also laying great emphasis on infrastructure projects. We, therefore, see good potential for Austrian companies especially in the areas of tunnel construction, airport and road construction and energy as well as waste disposal, education, health, tourism and wood-working.

In India the delegation will be visiting New Delhi and Gujarat. There has been an economic slowdown in India in recent years but this is expected to recover in 2013/14 and a growth rate of 6.5% or more is anticipated. Industry is the backbone of a healthy economy and several new initiatives and projects requiring latest machinery and technologies are envisaged. In New Delhi official appointments at Ministries as well as B2B meetings with selected Indian companies are planned.

With 16% of the country’s industrial production, Gujarat holds an important position for the Indian industry. A number of Indian and international industrial organizations are located here and are benefitting by the investment and industry-friendly environment of the fastest-growing state in India. In Ahmedabad we will have a meeting with one of the Big Fours who are consultants to the state government of Gujarat for economic policies and analysis. A visit to the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City Company Limited (GIFT), a global financial hub, and to the Tata Nano plant near Ahmedabad is planned. Round Table Sessions at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry are also being organized.

Looking forward to your participation !
