LEDs for the world’s tallest clock tower in Mecca

Digital Elektronik is responsible for the nightly illumination of the enormous clock belonging to the world’s tallest clock tower in Mecca. Austrian expertise, more than half a million LEDs installed at the site in Mecca along with 200 tonnes of electronics material, all at a height of 601 metres – a veritable tour de force in electronics and precision engineering.

It is a unique location: Islam’s most sacred site in Mecca. The tower boasts enormous dimensions: at 601 metres tall and with 95 floors, the new clock tower in Mecca is the third tallest building and the tallest clock tower in the world. The four clocks on each side of the tower are also worthy of superlatives: they resemble the clock faces of London’s Big Ben, but each measures 40 x 40 metres. The face is white by day and illuminated green at night, while the hands are black by day and glow white at night. Digital Elektronik was the company responsible for the illumination of the enormous clock.

Founded in 1978, Digital Elektronik is a service-orientated Austrian firm specialising in the fields of electronics and precision engineering. It has branches in St. Leonhard bei Salzburg and Tamsweg.
