Quality Viennese footwear treads the streets of London

Ludwig Reiter has been making beautifully crafted men and women’s shoes and accessories since 1885. Now in its fourth generation, this Viennese family firm represents a truly living tradition – a marriage of old-fashioned craftsmanship and contemporary style that has become an international success story.

Ludwig Reiter’s first UK shop opened its doors on London’s Brook Street, just off the prestigious Bond Street, in 2012, and has since built up a loyal following for both the company’s classic styles – such as the famous “Maronibrater” (chestnut roaster) boots – and its latest collections. It even takes orders for shoes made to customers’ individual specifications.

All the company’s shoes are made by a team of some 50 highly specialised craftsmen, who together produce around 30,000 pairs of shoes every year. It is their skill and traditional techniques – alongside the use of the world’s highest quality leathers – that make a pair of Ludwig Reiter shoes so special. Each one is the end result of more than 300 manufacturing steps, notably the famous Goodyear welting method, whereby the upper leather and inner sole are sewn together with a continuous leather strip (the welt).
