Flying high in Venezuela: Austria’s market-leading cable car manufacturer

Take a ride from the rooftops of Caracas to Venezuela’s highest peaks with Doppelmayr cable car.

Doppelmayr is the market leader in advanced cable car technology, and operates manufacturing, sales and servicing facilities in more than 35 countries worldwide. The company has built over 14,600 cable car systems in 89 different countries, with Venezuela one of its most important markets.

It is Doppelmayr municipal cable cars that serve the Venezuelan capital Caracas. The first 8-person, 5-station public transport gondola lift system entered service in San Agustín in 2009, with a second following in 2012. Districts on Caracas’ steep hillsides – often only otherwise accessible via winding steps and narrow lanes – now enjoy convenient access to the city’s mass transit network. The Venezuelan government has also plumped for a solution provided by Doppelmayr to extend the Caracas Metro system – a Cable Liner shuttle.

In 2011, Doppelmayr was commissioned to construct a new cable car for the Pico Espejo in Mérida, Venezuela. It is the longest and highest aerial tramway in the world. In mid-2014, Doppelmayr’s tender was accepted to build the new ‘Waraira-Repano-Macuto’ cable car, which is to link the mountains surrounding Caracas with the coast via a 10-km ropeway. The project is due to be completed in 2017.
