Screw jack systems have become export hits

International markets and trends have turned out to be growth drivers for ZIMM Maschinenelemente GmbH and the company has been notching up record sales.

The 110-strong team at worm gear transmission and drive system manufacturer ZIMM managed to increase the company’s turnover to EUR 19.1 million in the 2016 financial year - up 15% on the previous year and the highest since ZIMM’s foundation in 1977. The strong result was driven by the company’s exports to 40 foreign markets, including a large order from the Port of Dubai. Back in Austria, where ZIMM transacts some 20% of its business, the company has maintained its position as the established market leader in screw jack Systems.

The company is hoping to expand its international marketing structures to help it achieve similar success in the future. The company has built up its presence in Italy and opened its own sales office in Chicago for the key USA market. ZIMM is also currently represented by local partners in South Korea and China. The company has profited from the international trend in mechanical engineering and drive assemblies, moving away from hydraulic systems and towards electro-mechanical assemblies like screw jack systems. These are more environmentally friendly, allow for exact positioning of workpieces and components and boast excellent energy efficiency.

To leverage this benefit into the future, ZIMM took the decision last year to direct all investments and the focus of the whole company towards screw jack systems, which now account for 90% of its sales.
