Austria is one of the richest EU countries
According to preliminary estimates from the EU statistics office Eurostat , in 2017 gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in purchasing power standards (PPS) ranged from 49% to 253% of the EU average (100%).
With a value of 128% each, Austria and the Netherland have the highest GDP per capita of all EU member states except Luxembourg (253%) and Ireland (184%). This made Austria together with the Netherlands the third richest EU country in 2017, closely followed by Denmark (125%), Germany (123%) and Sweden (122%). The other countries above the EU average were Belgium (117%), Finland (109%), the United Kingdom (105%) and France (104%).
GDP per capita was slightly below the EU average in Italy (96%), Malta (96%) and Spain (92%). The two countries with the lowest GDP per head in terms of the EU average were Croatia (61%) and Bulgaria (49%).
Iceland (130%), Norway (150%) and Switzerland (158%) were the only countries outside the EU with higher GDP per capita than Austria.
