Austria is one of the richest EU countries
According to preliminary estimates from the EU statistics office Eurostat , in 2018 gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in purchasing power standards (PPS) ranged from 50% to 254% of the EU average (100%).
With a value of 127%, Austria had the highest GDP per capita of all EU member states except Luxembourg (254%), Ireland (187%) and the Netherlands (129%). This made the fourth richest EU country in 2018, closely followed by Denmark (126%), Germany (123%) and Sweden (121%). The other countries above the EU average were Belgium (115%), Finland (110%), the United Kingdom and France with 104% each.
GDP per capita was slightly below the EU average in Malta (98%), Italy (95%), Spain (91%) and the Czech Republic (90%). The two countries with the lowest GDP per head in terms of the EU average were Croatia (63%) and Bulgaria (50%).
Iceland (133%), Norway (150%) and Switzerland (157%) were the only countries outside the EU with higher GDP per capita than Austria.
