The future of services is up in the air

There are all sorts of ways in which drones are used to simplify our daily lives, and studies suggest that the global market for drone flights could be worth more than USD 50 billion a year.
The potential uses for commercial drones range from industrial inspections (for example of railway lines and motorways) to deployments by the emergency services (transmitting a live feed from an incident site) and couriers (making time-critical blood deliveries), applications in agriculture and even drone taxis.
To make delivery of services like these a reality, drones will have to fly beyond an operator’s eyeshot. That will require a secure and constant radio connection, not least in order to safely connect to airspace and air traffic control systems. Linz-based Dimetor GmbH has developed a piece of software that ensures commercial drones can be operated safely.
