Austrian agricultural exports rose again in 2015

26. January 2016

The demand for agricultural products from Austria continues to rise, with goods worth some 10 billion EUR being exported in 2015. Austria’s most important trading partners are Germany and Italy.

Initial extrapolated figures supplied by AMA Marketing suggest there has been an upswing of 2.5% in Austrian agricultural exports, which climbed to just under 10 billion EUR in 2015.

Germany is Austria’s most important trading partner, accounting for about a third of all Austrian food and agricultural exports (3.5 billion EUR), followed by Italy with 1.3 billion EUR. While economic circumstances meant that Hungary, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia proved problematic export destinations last year, trading relations with Croatia returned a significantly improved performance (up 13.%), and growth in exports to the Netherlands also hit double digits.

Consignments to so-called third countries such as Switzerland (up 10%) enjoyed similarly welcome expansion rates, with the flow of goods to the USA in particular up an impressive 42%.

The most important product groups in the export sector include meat and meat preparations, milk and milk products, fruit and vegetables, and drinks.
