Lenzing have been developing an innovative filament yarn with exceptional properties

16. November 2017

After three years’ research, this Austrian fibre manufacturing group has launched a new product: TENCEL™ Luxe, a cellulose-based yarn.

After three years of research and testing and an exclusive event in Paris to present their findings, the Austrian Lenzing Group is hoping that its new product, filament yarn, will give silk a run for its money.

The new product, which will see the group taking the plunge into a brand new business segment, has been christened TENCEL™ Luxe. The closed-loop yarn is based on the lyocell production process, using cellulose fibres whose exceptional properties make the material ideally suited for the manufacture of textiles in the luxury segment of the fashion industry. The soft, smooth surface of the filaments make them a perfect partner when combined with other fabrics such as silk, cashmere and wool, lending the cloth a silky texture. They are also naturally breathable and offer outstanding colour-fastness.

Lenzing is hoping this innovative product will allow them to break into the premium segment of the textile market. Some 50 staff have been researching and refining the product over the last three years, and TENCEL™ Luxe is now ready for its market launch. Instead of selling fibres by the ton, they will be offering individual spools holding 120 km of yarn, all manufactured in Austria.

The Lenzing Group is a global brand leader based in Austria, with manufacturing facilities in every key market and a worldwide network of sales and marketing offices. Lenzing supplies companies producing textiles and fleece materials with top-quality botanic fibres and filaments.
